Hi there! I’m Michal (pronounced Mee-Hal), Hill Impact’s spring 2019 communications intern. I’m a graduating senior at the University of Maryland at College Park (go Terps!) where I’m double majoring in communications and government and politics. I’m no stranger to communications, as my experience spans from organizations such as the American Red Cross to DoSomething.org, and I’m on UMD’s events programming board. At Hill Impact, I will be drafting content such as press releases and blogs, pitching top media outlets, finding thought leadership opportunities for the firm and its clients and more.
My interest in public relations and communications all started with CJ Cregg. Yes, the press secretary from “The West Wing,” She was always on her feet, trying to fix problems (even before they happen), and that’s what I wanted to do. At Hill Impact, I’m looking forward to to get real-world experience in the industry to develop my skills in client and media relationships, as well as project management and metric analysis.
What do I like to do when I’m not working? Study. School is important. In my real free time, I love watching movies and TV shows. My friends say that I’m a pop culture encyclopedia. If you want to know what I’m watching, what should win awards and how diversity and other issues are represented in the media, I’m your go-to. I also love to read and prefer hard copy over e-books. *Gasp*. I love anything from non-fiction to young adult to the strangest sci-fi you can think of. I’m always looking for more book recommendations, and I’m always happy to give some of my own. I also love to travel, and being born in Jerusalem, Israel, might explain why I can’t handle rainy weather. I also recently study abroad in Copenhagen and I’m counting the days until I can visit again.
I’m looking forward to learning from the team at Hill Impact and providing my own insights — including the best workplace sitcom. Hint: there is a miniature horse involved.
